Make your way to the East Coast of the USA to experience a hidden gem of the craft beer world in the southern state of Georgia.

From the bustling breweries in the state’s capital of Atlanta to the historic, coastal city of Savannah, you won’t be disappointed in the refreshing brews this state has to offer, which people have been enjoying for quite some time.

You also don’t want to miss one of the largest breweries in the state of Georgia — in fact, Sweetwater Brewing Company is one of the largest facilitators of craft brew in the USA. On average, this massive brewery generates approximately 400,000 barrels of beer a year. This ranges from their signature 420 Pale Ale to the brewers’ more experimental batches. These exciting brews can be sampled in the brewery’s social taproom.

Just east of Atlanta, you will find Brick Store Pub in the city of Decatur. Here you can take your tastes along for a ride as you discover the world of aging beers at one of the largest beer cellars in the U.S., holding up to 1,000 beers at a time. You can sample the wide range of flavors from local Georgia beers to a variety of international beers, which are aged up to 20 years. While in the area, make sure to stop by the Porter and The Pirate’s House, some of the oldest bars in the USA.

Even further east, you’ll find yourself going back in time, as you are able to explore the ancient brewing methods in the city of Athens. Here, you can get a lesson in brewing in clay vessels, similar to ancient Egyptians. The Southern Brewing Company creates both light modern flavors and tart traditional flavors by utilizing these ancient methods from 10,000 years ago.

Our Ale Trail wraps in Georgia’s largest city, Atlanta. Locals enjoy a wide variety of beers at a local bottle share at Hampton + Hudson. Here you can sample some of the best beers brought along to taste by fellow connoisseurs. Taste, analyze and share your passion for the beverage among like-minded visitors.
