Tex Mex, that beautiful marriage of Southern U.S. and Mexican cuisines, is elevated to an art form in Austin. Start the day with a bacon, egg, green chile and cheese breakfast taco at Torchy’s Tacos. Torchy’s opened its first unit in 2006 in Austin and now has more than 30 locations around the country, offering inventive tacos with a unique selection of fillings such as fried avocado, jalapeno sausage and seared ahi tuna. Or, check out Chuy’s, operating in Austin since 1982, for “Big as Yo’ Face” burritos stuffed with refried beans, cheese, chicken or beef.
