Beaches, Shopping and Golfing Paradise on Hilton Head Island

Hilton Head Island is home to more than 19 kilometers of beaches, and this bike-friendly community makes it easy to explore them all. You really can’t find anything more unique to Hilton Head than bicycling along the oceanfront on the hard-packed sand.  Another option is to venture out on about 160 kilometers of bike pathways.

One of my favorite beaches was Coligny Beach Park near the heart of downtown Hilton Head. Voted as one of the top family-friendly beaches in the USA with extremely well-maintained public toilets, showers and changing areas, this is the ideal place to while away the day. There is a fun fountain with synchronized jets for children to splash around in, and rocking chairs and free Wi-Fi for the adults. Within walking distance, you will find Coligny Plaza, which offers great shopping, dining and a cinema for your evening entertainment.

Also perfect for family fun, the new ZipLine Hilton Head at Broad Creek Marina is a faster paced way to enjoy the outdoors. Absorb the beauty of the area as you soar through the trees.

The Harbour Town Golf Links golf course in Sea Pines Resort has consistently been ranked among the best in the world. It is home to a PGA Tour event, the RBC Heritage Golf Tournament. With the ocean and the Harbour Town Lighthouse as your backdrop, I daresay this is also one of the prettiest places to tee off.

For the tennis players in your group, adjacent to the Sonesta Resort within Shipyard Plantation, you’ll find the Van Der Meer Racquet Club, a premier tennis facility that also offers fantastic coaching with certified tennis professionals.

After a round or two of golf, you can walk down the road to Harbour Town for some excellent dining and shopping in the cute boutiques or stop for some delicious homemade ice cream. If you’re still looking for active, outdoor fun, try your hand at kayaking or paddleboarding. Dolphin watches are also available, and there’s even a child-friendly pirate ship, so there’s something for everyone.

For even more shopping, you can browse Tanger Outlets. The two large outdoor outlet malls offer any product you can imagine. You can stock up on presents for others or yourself. With deals this good, why not do both? That is exactly what I did!

When it’s time to relax after days of adventure, Hilton Head Island is home to a variety of full-service resorts and luxury vacation homes.
