Find Your Adventure in Myrtle Beach
by Heiko Obermoeller
As I strolled along the boardwalk in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, the SkyWheel suddenly came into view. At more than 50 meters high, this is not a typical Ferris wheel. The SkyWheel is located directly on the beach and is beautifully illuminated at night. I bought a ticket and took a seat in one of the closed cabins and was amazed as I soared higher and higher above the boardwalk and could see for kilometers below. This is just one example of the adventures that awaited me in Myrtle Beach, a dream vacation spot on the coast of South Carolina!
Myrtle Beach Speedway
My next stop: The Myrtle Beach Speedway is a NASCAR racing track, with almost daily exciting events from the NASCAR 400 race to the Wheels of Destruction stunt show. I decided to try the NASCAR Racing Experience and enjoy the thrill of riding in a real NASCAR racecar!
After a short introduction, I got into my racing suit, put on a helmet and entered the racecar through the small passenger seat window. The engine was already roaring threateningly. I felt rather helpless, as an assistant buckled me into a tight seat belt. After a quick thumbs-up, the driver accelerated so fast that I got pushed into my seat. Lap after lap, we raced with breathtaking speed only centimeters away from the concrete wall. Just recalling the experience sends chills up my spine. The Myrtle Beach Speedway is undoubtedly the place for thrill seekers and racecar fanatics.
Zip Lining at Broadway at the Beach
After this thrilling ride, I decided to explore the nearby Broadway at the Beach. This is South Carolina’s biggest entertainment complex and you will find everything here. Besides restaurants, bars, an aquarium, shopping and live shows, Broadway at the Beach is home to a ropes course and zip line – perfect for my adventure tour!
I headed to WonderWorks, a hands-on science museum, for the Soar and Explore zip line and ropes course. The ropes course stands a dizzying 12 meters tall. I somehow negotiated 3 stories of ropes with many challenging obstacles and activities. Then, it was time for the zip line, which was amazing! I felt like I was flying as I “zipped” 15 meters above the ground, traveling more than 300 meters between the towers.
Myrtle Beach has many more adventures awaiting for the those who live for the rush of adrenaline. But after so many thrills, I was content to relax and explore the shops and restaurants at Broadway at the Beach.
