Your vacation starts from the moment you take the gorgeous drive into Galena along Highway 20. Stop at the scenic overviews to soak up the views before continuing on your journey into the charming town of Galena.
Galena is a quaint and lovely town, with a historic Main Street that offers beautiful architecture to appreciate and lots to see and do. You will be unable to resist the two miles of specialty, apparel, antique and boutique shops; the many delicious restaurants from fine dining to ethnic cuisines; and the art galleries that line the road.
Outdoor Activities at Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa
Head a few miles outside Galena to the Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa, which offers fantastic outdoors activities for the adventurous among us, as well as luxury and relaxation with full services and a well-appointed spa. You’ll be literally whisked off your feet with a magical hot-air balloon ride, which takes you 3,000 feet up and offers views of Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin. Other recreational activities include golfing on the “The General” course, which is known for its difficulty and its beauty; canoeing, kayaking and paddleboarding on Lake Galena; and hiking or biking on the 20 miles of scenic trails.
Hiking at Mississippi Palisades State Park
For a slightly more rugged outdoors experience, visit the National Natural Landmark located nearby at the confluence of the Mississippi and Apple rivers in northwestern Illinois – Mississippi Palisades State Park. High up on an overlook inside the park, I look down on the Illinois River as it meanders through the surrounding landscape of rolling hills. Here, you can hike 15 miles of trails rich in Native American history, fish, picnic or enjoy the best of nature by staying overnight at one of the campsites.
Galena and the surrounding Great Rivers Country offer lots of fun outdoor activities and vast natural beauty everywhere you look. I know you’ll love it here as much as I do!
