From Charleston to Savannah, Georgia

We were sad to leave Charleston, but ready to hit the road and find more adventures down the Southern Atlantic Coast Highway. After breakfast, we packed up the car and headed towards Georgia. In just under two hours, we were in beautiful, artistic Savannah. We knew the day had a lot in store for us, so we stopped by the hotel to unload our things. The Brice, a Kimpton Hotel was a true representation of the city that surrounded it. We loved the graphic design, modern art and edgy spin on the décor (imagine a vintage armoire painted bright fuchsia!).

After our quick pit stop, we decided to visit one of the top art schools in the country, The Savannah College of Art and Design (or SCAD, as it’s better known). We loved touring the campus and seeing the students’ work displayed all around its galleries. From fashion designers to fine artists, we got the impression that the school is producing some of the world’s best future artists. Of course, we couldn’t leave without some souvenirs from their gift shop, shopSCAD!

It was time for lunch, and The Olde Pink House was the perfect spot. The restaurant sits in an 18th-century mansion and we heard that ghosts may haunt the property. We heard it’s one of the best restaurants in town, and we quickly realized that there’s truth to that rumor. Our fried chicken and scallops were amazing, the drinks were strong, and the live music was so much fun!

After lunch, we took an hour-long tour through the Savannah River via Savannah Riverboat Cruises. We learned so much about the city and its industrial past, and were fascinated by the river itself—it’s a mix of sweet and salt water and has both manatees and alligators. We’d never seen anything like it!

We hopped back in the car and headed 15 miles southeast of Savannah to Skidaway Island State Park. With winding scenic trails, a boardwalk and an observation tower, the park was a great place to enjoy beautiful views. We even got a glimpse of some of the park’s exotic animals like fiddler crabs, egrets and deer.

Our tummies started rumbling, so we headed back to Savannah for dinner at Vic’s on the River. The restaurant is truly unique. It sits in an old cotton warehouse and their outdoor area is surrounded by centuries-old live oaks. We dined on fresh, local seafood dishes and enjoyed the spectacular views of the Savannah River. We decided to walk around after dinner, and strolled through City Market. We were pleasantly surprised to find live music, tons of people and a great atmosphere. We thought the shops around the square and the street vendors make it a great shopping destination. This place is definitely the soul of Savannah!

Our night ended with refreshing cocktails at the rooftop bar of the Bohemian Hotel, Rocks on the Roof. This bar had, hands down, the best view of the city, and we soaked it in while sipping on Manhattans and Bloody Marys. The perfect way to end an eventful day if you ask us!
