Atlantic City: This isn’t your basic Jersey Shore.

We woke up hungry and decided to check out one more Philly landmark before driving south to New Jersey. So after a quick ride to a cool area called Rittenhouse Square, we found ourselves a bistro called Parc Brasserie — but it felt more as if we’d somehow flown across the Atlantic Ocean to Paris. The pastries were honestly pieces of heaven and no one should ever have Quiche Lorraine again unless they can find a recipe this good.

We arrived in Atlantic City in less than two hours, and it was a good thing because there was so much we wanted to do. The Boardwalk became our playground for the next few hours. Each of us had our own idea of what to do first, and we made a unanimous decision to do it all. We shopped for souvenirs, ate saltwater taffy, played arcade games and even stopped in a casino or two as we went along. Lady Luck wasn’t exactly shining on us, but the sun surely was. We went into the Pier Shops at Caesars and soon realized this wasn’t your ordinary upscale shopping mall. There’s a wall of windows that stretch from the ceiling all the way down to the floor with a great view of the beach, complete with sand and beach chairs for shopping breaks. Such creativity boggles the mind and that’s why we travel, right?

You’d have thought we ventured all the way to an ancient Chinese village if you saw us at dinner that night. Buddakan is indeed a restaurant, but it honestly felt more like a destination. Rock gardens, thatched roofs and a twilight sky set the tone as we greeted our host — none other than Buddha himself! Okay, it was a giant golden replica that presided over a large communal table, but it was still amazing. We sampled from all three of the tasting menus and whether it was king salmon in miso mustard or wasabi crusted filet mignon, we were truly impressed.

Our accommodations in Atlantic City were the perfect ending to such a spectacular day. The Tropicana Casino & Resort, of course! Our rooms were in the south tower that faced the ocean. Does one ever get enough of a room with a view? Don’t think so.
